Doswell, Ph.D., President/CEO, Juxtopia, LLC, Director of the IEEE Virtual Instructor Pilot Research Group (VIPRG), Bowie State University Department of Computer Science External Advisory Committee. Abstract: Mixed Reality is a term coined by Milgram that refers to the merging of real and virtual worlds to produce new environments and visualizations where physical and digital objects co-exist and interact, in real time. Mixed reality includes the following categories of reality: Augmented Reality (AR), augmented virtuality, virtual reality, the real-world. In 1990, Boeing researcher Tom Caudell first coined the term “augmented reality” to describe a digital display used by aircraft electricians that blend virtual graphics onto a physical reality with an objective to superimpose digital data over a real-world environment in in real-time. This early innovation provided a “dream” to aircraft mechanics reducing the need to ask or try to translate what they found described in abstract diagrams located in manuals. Dr. Doswell, built upon the pioneering research of Caudell and contributed over ten years of wearable AR research to the Juxtopia Group, an open source mixed reality head mounted display (HMD) platform. The Juxtopia® Context-Aware Mobile Mixed Reality Assistive Device (CAMMRAD) platform is continually advancing to improve human cognitive performance. In his talk, Dr. Doswell will survey past and current wearable ARHMDs (such as Google Glass); Forecast the future of wearable AR systems; and Describe student and faculty research opportunities to further advance wearable AR systems to improve human cognition. Detailed Workshop for Virtual Reality Lab Students: The detailed workshop will explain what is a microcontroller and how to program it a for wearable AR platform. How to program an app for wearable AR device such as Google Glass. The talk will also explain what are AR hardware subsystems and what are the strengths and weaknesses of several wearable AR hardware. Dr. Doswell will train undergraduate and graduate participants how to use the open source, Juxtopia® CAMMRAD, to develop commercial level AR hardware and software that may interface with various AR Goggle systems and facilitate technology transfer for BSU students and faculty. (All are welcome to attend) Contact: Dr. Soo-Yeon Ji (sji@bowiestate.edu) or Dr. Sharad Sharma S (ssharma@bowiestate.edu) if you have any question.

Team Juxtopia® Imhotep Competes in Qualcomm Tricorder X PRIZE The Telemedicine Olympics BALTIMORE, MD (March 7, 2014) Juxtopia®’s (www.juxtopia.org) team, Juxtopia® Imhotep, formed as a program to create minority telemedicine companies to address telemedicine marketplace needs. The global telemedicine market grew from $9.8 billion in 2010 to $11.6 billion in 2011 and will almost triple to $27.3 billion in 2016, a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18.6% over the next five years, according to a report from BCC Research. Juxtopia® Imhotep officially entered the Qualcomm Tricorder X PRIZE http://www.qualcommtricorderxprize.org/ in January, 2014. In this X PRIZE competition, Juxtopia® Imhotep will compete with 31 teams around the world to engineer a consumer-friendly mobile telemedicine device that will measure vital signs and diagnose 15 health conditions including, but not limited to, diabetes, anemia, atrial fibrillation, stroke, tuberculosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, and hepatitis. Among the competing teams, Juxtopia® Imhotep is unique. This team of 13 and growing comprises 100% of underrepresented minority students in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) from high school to college. More significantly, the engineering team is comprised mostly of African American women students with majors ranging from computer science to mechanical engineering (http://www.juxtopia.org/programs/imhotep/team-imhotep/). The team’s official partners include the American Public Health Association (APHA)’s Health Informatics and Information Technology (HIIT) section (Washington, DC) and the Emerging Technology Centers (ETC) (Baltimore, MD). Dr. Jayfus Tucker Doswell, African American entrepreneur, inventor, artist, and scientist, is the team founder and graduate of Oberlin College (B.A.), Howard University (M.S.) and George Mason University (Ph.D.). Dr. Doswell was motivated to enter team Juxtopia® Imhotep into this X PRIZE to challenge underrepresented minority youth in STEM to engineer innovative solutions that decrease health disparities, which adversely impact disadvantaged populations around the world. Dr. Doswell states, “Our Juxtopia® Engineers in Training (JET)s are trained to engineer high quality solutions to the most challenging problems in the world and embody intrinsic principles to discipline, preserve, and innovate.” Team Juxtopia® Imhotep’s technical lead and project manager, Ms. Leshell Hatley, is an African American woman software engineer and Ph.D. candidate in George Mason University’s learning technology program. “I am excited about leading a predominately women engineering team in a worldwide engineering competition that has much potential for improving world health,” asserts, Ms. Hatley. Team Juxtopia® Imhotep’s partners and sponsors include APHA HIIT, BioHealth Innovations, Economic Alliance of Baltimore, ETC, Executive One Transport, The Juxtopia Group, LeibowitzMagiros Group, Maryland Department of Economic and Business Development, Maryland Technology Development Corporation, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Uplift. 2 Visit team Juxtopia® Imhotep and meet the young engineers and scientists at the American Telemedicine Association (ATA) held in Baltimore, Maryland, May 17 through 20, 2014.
START HERE: for sustainable youth to know how to segment health services from best value to very expensive. Health action networking and education was how bangladesh developed the most economical models of sustainability goal achievement 1972-2006 ever seen/ We know the family who connected all this into what has become the most collaborative and smartest education partnerships that sustainable youth can linkin into. During this one-year fellowship, students focus on building and scaling their innovative product or service "on the ground" as well as building the necessary knowledge, capabilities, mindset, and networks to ensure maximum impact and a sustainable future. Through this process, we create strong entrepreneurial leaders who not only drive economic and social progress through their ventures but also become change agents and global role models for future generations of high impact entrepreneurs. Apply Now | Deadline April 15

back in 2010 we were trying to edit invitations that would maximise scottish youth participation in second norman macrae remembrance party at The Economist - the first had been at University of Glasgow three week's after Norman's death -interdependence Weekend

now our family lives mainly in DC and melbourne: we have never been happy with our ability to invite scottish youth to linkin under 30 movements - advice welcome chris.macrae@yahoo.co.uk -we need to revisit this in time for the 175th anniversary of The Economist being founded to mediate end of poverty in 2018 http://economistuniversity.com

typical invitation fall 2010

Being at The Saint James Entrepreneurial Revolutions Cocktail Party 2 November

Yes please to all or any of you who are leading the mediation of headlines and actions in microbanking and microhealthcare should come: dare I say the founder of The Economist James Wilson was some sort of the Scottish blend of Muhammad Yunus. and Sir Fazle Abed

He came from a trading family; was a small business entrepreneur; found the regulations from London was increasingly destroying the sustainability of employees; decided on the social action of becoming an MP to get rid of the 90% of top down MPs; created The Economist as his media for getting rid of those MSP the worst upper class monopoly was the corn law which it was The Economist’s number 1 goal to repeal. The second goal was to repeal capital ;punishment. Prior to the 1700ish banking scam in which Scotland lost its independence to London, Scotland invested more in children, education , community critical services like health than any country in Europe. This investment was literally raped by London, and capital punishment was an excuse to chop off the heads of illiterate youth who were not prepared to act as serfs.

James had 2 knowhows to test market – that of adam smith’s principles at Glasgow University and that of the extreme social action of entrepreneurship in France. Entrepreneur (between take) refers to having cut off heads of royalty who were monoplosing ;productive assets will we build liberte, egalite, fraterite – a health society that generates strong economy. When dr yuns defines the entrepreneur as she who creates more jobs than she takes – he probably integrates Smith-ParisEntrepreneurship-Wilson in one

Adam Smith developed economic constructs to try to prevent future recurrence of a small nation that had spent most in investing in youth and family and community being victim to a hostile takeover by a larger nation who gad used an international banking scam . The people of scotland lost half of all their money in such a scam around 1700; of closure Adam would have celebrated grameen as the perfect free market of banking immune to such scams. People forget that prior to the industrial revolution, most people never moved more than 12 miles in their whole lives. So one grameen branch would have been the perfect regional size to offer all your sustainable financial services with its 60 by 60 micromarket village centres where people sat in circles to share knowledge on job creation

Between 1700 and 18560, scotland’s job creation circles were typically hosted by ministers of the scottish free church- my double great granddad was one on isle of arran at the same time that James took his parallel social action initiatives in London. Every Sabbath on isle of of arran people went to 2 churches. One of upper class religion hosted by the man who owned 90% of Arran’s land and his administrators, who since London’ rule were told sheep make more profit each quarter than people. Most of the islanders walked for hours to the kirk at the bottom end of the island Kilmory Manse . The number 1 conflict resolution they cam up with was to ask the landowner for money to emigrate. Over hal of all of Scotland had to emigrate between the English take over of Scotland and James Wilson attempt to transform parliament into a place whose mps and laws sustained all peoples instead of big brothering over them

I don’t claim to be a historian or economist in every last fact but it shouldnt be too difficult for a mixed team of Glasgow Cal and Glasgow Uni to confirm both the action and the theoretical principles and the sustainability crisis that microeconomics 9the original economic) was built round. The Economist desperately wanted when my dad was sill young to appoint Roy Jenkins as editor. Perhaps we should want to ask Gordon Brown if he could help chair the editing of actions and system principles that Scotland with paris and Dhaka can map to young people can see that the time is now chapter of dr yunus book is what their networking age is for. We also need to connect with those parochial mindsets who want to turn their weekly assemblies into job creation camps –there were abloutt 12 scotyish presentations and sofia;s from London which dr yunus warmly applauded at Glasgow university on july 4 – in other words the theorists know they need the social action people so they can go through every syllabus module and re-edit the theory

I am extremely embarrassed to write this as of course dr yunus knows more about the action rejuvenation of theory by social action than I do and there are many in glasgow and paris who can make all of this history more precise. The triple connections of HEC SMBA, GlasgowCal Action Centres, and Glasgow Uni Institute of Social Business (reforming theory in modular way in every discipline and practice read by students) win-win-win with each other. Without them my dad’s work would forecast like Einstein and von Neumann and orwell and Buckminster fuller (eric wopuld toffer also join in this sort lof forecast – pretty sure Ralph Nader does from my DC chats with him) either the extinction or the downsizing of our human race to about a billion by 2100. This would be a pity since the joy of microeconomics would not only be more fun than dismal macroeconomics but increase health and wealth faster than the industrial revolution did provided networks unite round poverty museum building and other life critical information first as we reduce degrees of separation in lour interdependent world. So the 2010s is the most exciting decade to be alive; and probably the journal of social business’s first paper should be based on the last chapter of building social business and include the Dhaka-paris-glasgow axis. However we don’t just need microeconomics but to map how it empowers the collaboration entrepreneur. Whichever are youths 20 top sustainability goals fro 2020 they will only happen with an open source replication of micro solutions the like of which we are on the verge of co-creating if 2010s becomes humanity’s most exciting decade.

But lets remember James Wilson stories on Nov 2 if we can because they are the bridge to the conscience of chairman of economist and pearsons,, and broadcasters like Andrew Neil and rational optimism of science editing by the next viscount of Blagdon and the pride that the son of forma liberal leader Jo Grimmond and of Baroness Hogg daughter of the former Lord Chance;lor (a story of which dad ended his oxford union defeat of michael foot by a margin of 99% to 1% www.oxbridge.tv . Having put the ownership of the economist in the hands of the daughters of his family and daughters of his son-in-law bagehot whose editing of The Economist changed monarchy from empire system to commonwealth system, he started a project in india to treat and reform raj economics. (Just as Scotland had been the best place to be born into in Europe as a kid prior to 1700, India was the wealthiest and healthiest place in its region before The English go to it. 9 months into this project James died before his time – the cure he needed was oral rehydration which Bangladesh’s other greatest microentrepreneur network BRAC helped replicate as its first nationally scaled replication of a vital service solution.

A manse (pronounced /ˈmæns/; from Latin mansus, "dwelling", from manere, "to remain"[1]) is a house inhabited by, or formerly inhabited by, a minister, usually used in the context of a Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist or United Church. The implication is that the minister has been called by God and will remain until they are called elsewhere.[1]

When selling a former manse, the Church of Scotland always requires that the property should not be called "The Manse" by the new owners, but "The Old Manse" or some other acceptable variation. The intended result is that "The Manse" refers to a working building rather than simply apply as a name.

Many notable Scots are referred to as a "son (or daughter) of the manse", as a parent was a Presbyterian minister, and they were therefore brought up in a manse.

I’ve been struggling for the past couple of days to start a blog about my experiences in Bangladesh – not because there is nothing to write, but because I couldn’t imagine how I would pick one story. So I’m throwing focus out the window because in fact, it is the breadth and ambition of BRAC’s work that is breathtaking and changing millions of lives. BRAC is the world’s largest NGO, founded in Bangladesh, and with 60,000 employees there alone (they are increasingly working internationally too). Their ambition is no less than to alleviate poverty in their country, and to empower all Bangladeshi citizens to build a better, more prosperous future together.

Needless to say, this mission cannot be served with one type of programme, or a single client group. BRAC’s major insight is that for all Bangladeshi citizens – especially the poorest – to pull themselves out of economic, social and political poverty, the support they are offered must address all elements of the personal context and collective history that are holding them back.

So I have met women in an urban slum who are being supported to build small businesses and improve their lives. They receive microfinance loans to kick start enterprises selling saris, cakes, fish and tea. But that is not enough to sustain a better life. BRAC also offers them training to manage their money and their accounts, to sign their own name and to get an identity card to protect their assets. They learn about basic health and hygiene so they can keep their businesses running, and their children safe.

Saira grew up in a rural village and moved to the city when she could no longer generate any income to support her family. On moving to the city, she struggled to find work and ended up brick-breaking like many others – hard, unreliable, physical work. She and her children had no more than one meal a day. Following support and a small loan from BRAC, she now runs a cake business that makes enough money to send her youngest daughters to school and to feed the whole family three times a day. Perhaps most importantly, BRAC has helped her to learn about her rights. This has had a major impact. Saira’s husband abandoned her eight years ago, with six daughters to support. When he heard about her flourishing business, he tried to come back to share in her success. And she would not take him back – unheard of in traditional communities.

I have also met young children at a BRAC primary school, desperate to show me the interactive games they use to learn Bengali, English and other subjects. They clamoured to tell me of their ambitions to be doctors, teachers, engineers and even a pilot – despite being too poor even to afford to go to a government school. They too learn a broader, rights-based curriculum that imbues them with far greater control over their own lives, and belief that they can achieve anything. The same is true of the teenagers in an ‘adolescents’ group’ just outside Dhaka, the women in a ‘social capital’ group in a rural village, and the volunteer teachers even further off the beaten track.

BRAC is not an education organization. It is not a micro finance organization and it is not a training organization even though it does all those things. It is a citizen-building organization. It is helping to build a new set of values, skills, aspirations and determination in millions of people by providing them with a platform to do more and better for themselves. I haven’t even mentioned one hundredth of what they do. But Saira’s final reflection on the impact of working with BRAC sums up what I heard over and over again. ‘Now, I am tension free’.
