during his 80th birthday asian graduates including a Harrison Owen alumn were asked to come back and open space but then their visas were cancelled due to the terror attack in dhaka that summer- meanwhile fazle Abed inspired 9 leading educators to report to a year 1 review at UN HQ NY of sdgs that teaching their practice was impossible to realise effectively with millennials unless the un designed total change in education and egov now called https://www.un.org/techenvoy/content/ongoing-work d-Guterres Digital Cooperation Roadmapping

===========================JAN 2023 upd

Version

Over least 12 months have talked to people designing metaverse to maximise millennials changing education and connect positive emotional intel some of call womens kindness (one ny billionnaire is launching her next leap on kindness on valentines day) with the help of my favorite recording studio in NY

NY first became my fav place in USA when 9 brave educators (eg world bank jim kim) in 2016 told the UN hq that the sdgs were unteachable without change to every way learning time is spent - that has become https://www.un.org/techenvoy/content/ongoing-work Before this the UN had nothing for me coming from 4 generations of diaspora scots who prefer not to spend life's time on top down system design

OS & META DESIGN NOW

another asian new yorker https://www.k20educators.com/ is in my searches a mile ahead in designing virtual spaces so you don't need to be tied to costs (and silos) of physical conference centres or lectures driven by costly certificates -

she has designed in about 4 best of meta-tools - eg augmented reality, game designs, blockchain to own what fashion or solutions you create or open source;

AND open space

so short question who might want to chat with her (of course you are welcome to contact her direct) but my new york friends are trying to linkin a calendar of stuff through 2023 where we aim to help communities take back the UN (or at least youth scalling sdg solutions across communities)

so as one example march 21 to 25 has first water-sanitation-habitat summit at hq for 20 yeras and i know jack sim from singapore who is number1 in telling stories on value of toilets; jack's own story includes selling his 40 companies in 1999 and spending the last 23 years or cooperation solutions BOP Hub

The OECD International Early Learning and Child Well-being Study asked over 4 500 five-year-olds what they liked best about their kindergarten or school. Almost all children gave very specific answers, and many explained the reasoning behind their views.

Join our panel of international experts to understand what we can learn from these children and how this can help education systems provide the best possible early learning environments.

Key questions we will address are:

-Why should education leaders and practitioners listen to children’s views, including children in the early years?
-What is the role of play in early cognitive and social-emotional development?
-Is there a trade-off between intentional teaching and learning, and unstructured play?

Speakers include:

– Dr Cristina Stringher, Early Childhood Research, INVALSI
– Dr Bo Stjerne Thomsen, Chair of Learning Through Play, LEGO Foundation
– Dr Roberta Golinkoff, School of Education, University of Delaware
– Andreas Schleicher, OECD Director for Education and Skills

japanese silicon valley friends of abed helped him launch bracnet in 1996 - while its true that the combination of solar and mobile changed the possibility of developing places previously excluded from electricity grids i am not so sure whether dr yunus telephone girls were the biggest story-

- back in 1996 brac already had nation wide service/supply chain organisations in 5 dimemesions -the rural agricultural and cratsfs ones being called brac 3nterprises - health food security education partering plarforms as well as finance- it wanted to digitalise the information dewspearely -when you think about recording transacrions such as supplying 50 cents birthing kits (the current wholesale proce of brac's kit for village mifwifes) the amount of manual record keeping needed heroic work by every staff member of brac - it was only the hardest working service staff i have ever seen that could manually record such data-

as you can see from the 2014 report reproducedbelow digitaliising brac's launch of city bank aimed at supporting particularly 2nd generation vilage families. and small eterprises was a huge project for bracnet

yes its true for a decade the best village franchise a women could get was to be the mobile phone box and walking yellow pages for the 60 people she met weekly in her brac circle - but once everyone started to get phones its not clear where that led grameen - (yes indeed grameen phone was bangladesh's biggest company but two thirds owned by telenor most of its business was no different than any other mobile operator to get a nations first licence - yes the first licence it got underpaid the governmet by about 100 fold because some consultant had got the size for mobile customers 100 times wrong!)

i first visited grameen in 2007 and the idea of bank a billion cashless was absolutely yunus main desire we smapled 10000 dvds of his leadership team interviews who were all revved up around that belief the week in 2008 that the nobel judges came to celebrate yunus and bangladesh youth -if you will pay for postage i can send you a dvd chris.macrae@yahoo.co.uk as we kypt 1000 for libaries

- i talked for houts to his tech director kazi islam (whome abed had headhunted from working with ck prahalad in michigan prof of bottom billion marketing) who desperatly wanred to achieve yunus dream but what happened at brac was steadily different

it wasnt until 2012 that brac had found all the partners for launhiing cashless banking for a billion unbanked or underbanked - the model bill gates has endorsed as the wizardry of fintech for the poor only rivaled (possibly by what went on in china around jack ma's alipay - a model now controversial as china does want american stockmarkets to own its rural digital banking) - and as the attached 2014 report even this launch was as much about internal supply chain records now going digital omstead of manual

if you think i am wrong in my reporting - i suugest you look at the partners of bkash - many started with yunus but moved over to brac as they wanted to lojg term improve tech and co-create; they even broight in the founding tech wizard from kenya's mpesawhich arguable wqas nearer to being a stand alone consumer financial service but even mpesa is complicated owned by vodaphone foundation and with safari parterships orinally being rhe sypply chain?

From early 1960s my father's (Norman Macrae) Asia Rising surveys offered distinctive future capitalism models (rural keynes for villages, supercity multi-win trade for hi-tech sme value chains) in The Economist argued that the 60+% of humans who are Asian and had been colonised due to way white empires applied engines - from 1972 fathers' entrepreneurial revolution & future history series debated why all communities would need bottom-up microfranchising to balance big government and big corporation if we want every community next child is born into to be a place where youth livelihoods thrive

the all time laureate of the economist's entrepreneurial revolution genre is SIR FAZLE ABED

story 1 after going as teen from east pakitan to study naval engineering at adma smith galsgow's university, abed cmlmmbed to be leading asian ceo for royal dutch shell; but in 1970 when a cyclone killed a million of his compatriotsd he decided to end his contract with shell- by 1972 he was spendong his life savings of 15000 poinds building 15000 homes for 100000 vilagers; while oxfam ranked this the most effective project ever seen- abed was mortified- as soon as he walked through vilages he found mothers dying every week of starvation and infants dying of lack of clean water- so he sdtarted designing micrfrancise busiensses vilage moters could make profits from while solving last mile health and food security needs; he now had a metavilage lab to find partners and test vilage busienss solutions; tahts how he started connecting partners across all 5 dinemsions - health, food, finance , education 100% productivity of women-empowered communities- in bangladesh vilages in 1992 meant no electrivcity grids ; all networks person to person; for teh first 25 yeras all brac partnerships needed to want to pilot solutions to end this extreme poverty

story 2 chiense vilagers faced similat chalenges and need for women to be as productive as men; while there were no financial positions in each other , solutions of brac and china were open sourced - ultimately the vast majority of all extreme poverty in asia well over a billion people came from etehse exchnages; abed said he was lucky - the chiense wanted solutions like oral rehydration that his country's cholera lab had discovered but not known how to get illiterate mothers to appluy- brac's employye number 3 was the wife of a chiense american whose main job in early 1970s was to transfer last mile health solutions to china; in the late 1970s UNICEY announced yera of chiold compoetitions- brac enetered oral rehydration and won the main prize funding to scale nationwide ; james grant went on to extend brac franchised solutions on oral rehydration and conteunental scale vaccination as unicef's biggest achievement of the 1980s as well as brac's; in this way brac had within 13 years of startup scaled across almost all of rural bangladesh and its knowhow was shared across china villages; strangely because india and myanmar were historically opponents to muslims models of rural keynesiansm first reported in The Economist as invented by Japan , Taiwan, Korea south developed bangladesh and china but not so much India and Myanmar or west pakistan the other major peoples of the south asia coastline west of asean

3 game of 2 halves - from 1996 solar and mobile started to connect villages- so abed could extend collaboration platforms for second half of his 25 yeras- who wanted to partner with digital solution ; how could universities join in? it is not always well understood that abed had 4 different value chain partnerships to lead on behalf of womens sustained livelihoods

1 village

100k villages

national leader

global leadership

during 1986-2008 abed focused on designing 14 nation leading enterprisies and agricultural nation like bangladesh needs to integrate around the poorest as well as other natioal leaading institutions brac university, brac bank; he had been asked to share his solutions worldwide probably as early as 2000 by mrs steve jobs; but he needed to take time to find the optimal second brac international headquaretrs (a bangladesh ngo cant fundraise for international services); after piloting offices parterships in usa and Uk he settled for netherlands as his main HQ - there are a lot of reasons why this became an optimal choice- how many can you thinks of - chris.macrae@yahoo.co.uk

abed's last 12 yeras - 2007-2019 is when i was privileged to visit bangladesh up to twice a year - so the global collabs he formed in his last 12 years particularly the goal of 100 asian university partnerships each designing at least one huge scaling solutions all asian grads could share are a focal interest of abedmooc as are the final collab platforms bottom right which abed asked friends to make his legacy
economistdiary.com innovation miracle- billion asian women ended dollar a day poverty -summits and abedhunicornstag:bracnet.ning.com,2021-03-01:4777346:Topic:1007242021-03-01T22:15:01.334Zchris macraehttps://bracnet.ning.com/profile/chrismacrae

and at end of world war 2 over 80% on asia's continent had been left out of the machine age started by scotlands smith and watt-mainly because of how london had ruled so many waves during era of colonisation- with no access to electricity grids all development had to be linked in communally person to person- in poorest village asia most cultures left women to community build villages whilst strongest sons might work in city or abroad remitting back to the village

this index has taken 10 years looking at a lot of different projects empowering bangladesh village women -it can offer a detailed way of building very deep data connections/system flows if you value that sort of approach
F1 F2 F3 F4 F5 F6 H1 H2 H3 H4 H5 A1 A2 A3 A4 A5 A6 E1 E2 E3 E4 E5 S1 S2 S3 S4 S5
in this compendium of rural human/economic development, we try to put some numbers showing how huge the bottom billion person economy built by half a billion womens empowerment is - but please note gravitational solutions such as oral rehydration saving up to a third of infants lives in humid villages involved education but almost no cost as a cure- so financially they don't show up in macroeconomic views of world progress- more generally almost all parenting work has zero recognition among macroeconomists who track GDPs; nor do their numbers track what we are doing to nature - so in effect the more carbonised GGP grows- the more nature is destroyed; if you can help us correct numbers we welcome that- but please note any errors are mine alone- they do not weaken the value of understanding the solutions mapped- also while these solutions could be applied in ay part of asia where dense populatinos share very little resources; it happens that in numerical terms most of this progress was done by bangladeshi and chinese village women- most times when they faced the next deep community challenge - they shared solutions freely- however there is a big difference- chinese villagers over time could rely on huge wealth being crated in coastal china whereas bangladeshi women have not over the last 45 years; this means that if you want to look for the deepest solutions you monitor what bangladesh women invented and svaled; but if you want to verify how over 800 million people advanced beyond 1$ a day poverty you need to study other opportunities china enjoyed that bangladesh did not

meanwhile most of the asian women end poverty miracle is next to no carbon but no credits for that have been given by those who designed globalisation up to 2020 -covid crisis year; also in real communities eg mothers take turn in looking after each others kids- these free but vital exchanges dont show up in monetary economies; we start the countdown in 1975-part 1 to late 1990s involves person to person trust networking with no tech; part 2 involves chances to leap when partners test micro-solar or mobiles

to explore all the knowhow connected over abed's 83 years, we find all of these perspectives can help- where relevant we compare them the legacy of economist founder james wilsoon which started with his death by diarrhea in calcutta 9 months into his mission authorised by queen victoria -charter bank - aimed at financial services designed for and by the peoples of south asia

1 born 1936 - abed's first 19 years have parallels to gandhi 67 years earlier - both travelled at 19 from far corners (gandhi nw , abed ne) of british raj map of india to study in britian- gandhi law at bar of london, abed to study naval engineering at adam smiths glagow uni -more

2 geo-history; at its core 1945's birth of united nations ( san francisco opera house ) needed to remap a post-colonial world mainly designer around the interests of 7 white empires -about 8% of people plus japan- most of 70% of humans who were asian had been left out of 185 years of progress of humans and machines- eg rural in asia meant no access to electricity grids or telecoms - more

3 whilst the vast majority of asia's colonisation was done by britain, the country was effectively bankrupted by world war 2 and quickly agreed to demands for independence- but in the case of abed's homeland in 1955 it would have been 7 years of being reassigned as colny of pakistan- as far as stimulating asia rising the americans had by 1955 put japan on a growth path and kept south korea free; coastal roadster capitalism grew from japan to singapore -see the economist to 1970 by which time abed had risen at shell oil to be regional ceo for his region- this was when his life was to be changed at age 33 by 3 by one-million killer disasters- cyclone, war of indepenence, famine - more

4 1968-1977 was also an extraordinary time in china- by 1968 the chinese had totally rejected the russian ideology - a country which had no-non state corporation as late as 1975 started to explore 3 types ofnew capitalism - licences to run companies:

inward investment by china diaspora, now the 3rd wealthiest financial network after usa and japan; direct knowledge transfers from japan engineers to state industries; and what the economist called rural keynesianism - by 1977 bangladesh and chinese women started having a lot of knowhow to exchange on how women could hold up half the sky - eg barefoot health workers, borlaug crop science which increased local food security sometimes by 10 fold -more

5 between 1970 and 1995 brac was concerned with core interventions:

sustainable communities with inclusion of women as economic actors

last mile health

last mile agriculture to end starvation

finance and servant leadership for poorest

education for livelihoods -

we discuss the solutions here which had made bangladesh the world's micro-partner open village university by 1995

5a both because of asian history, and his corporate experience at royal dutch shell- uk, netherlands and japan have provided consistent partnership to brac- however it was in the 1980s that james grant of unicef made the biggest and deepest american-led UN partnership with brac- in under a decade village mothers had been trained in oral rehydration for every infant and one village mother for every 300 had started to make a living trained by brac on what non-prescription medicines to sell and where to take villagers for nationwide vaccination -the extraordinary idea that abed and grand proved possible

6 1995 was an extraordinary year as seeds for future human development grow - china's jack ma happened to be on his first us visit in seattle as bezos was launching amazon- for the first time asians started to conceptualise online future world with as much think time as americans (even though it would be at least 10 years before chuia's rails and online would reach inland) ; meanwhile it was actually bangladesh that became the first least developed nation to enjoy experiments in mobiles for poorest villagers) accompanied by solar for charging; while grameen preceded brac in such partnerships, 1995-2019 was to be the era that sir fazle abed steadily started to maximise engineering for the poorest- and how brac went from rural national institution to global ngo partner - more

7 out of america microcreditsummit was launched as a huge multiplier of bangladeshi awareness in 1977 around muhammad yunus- this coincided with the second term of bill clinton- the clinton family having visited yunus before bill's presidency- in our view education or health world have been much more exciting and multidisciplinary identities to celebrate bottom-up economic design around- anyhow by the early 2000s all of jim kim paul farmer bill gates and george soros had started connecting with sir fazle abed's knowhow on last mile health networking - brac had always empowered health and education by and for village mothers as integral with finance in ways grameen ordinance 1983 legislated 11 years after brac's foundation as ngo in 1972

from 2000 fazle abed took brc international after a why not conversation with mrrs steve jobs and started a new wave of national leadership networks including brac university and brac citizeb bank... more
